Experience STEM in the Community

2017-2018 MakerMinded Launch Event

For the launch of this year’s competition, MakerMinded is partnering with local companies to hold events throughout the first few months of school. These events are designed to spread the word about the new program and to get schools and industry partners connected and off to a good start for the current school year.

Attend a STEM Camp in KY

STEM camps provide students the opportunity to continue their learning outside of the classroom. It is important for students to stay engaged in learning throughout the year. There are many camps offered for middle and high school students across the state of Kentucky throughout the summer and during breaks throughout the school year.

Tomorrow's Engineers Today

Are you a middle or high school girl interested in science and math? Would you like to learn more about engineering? If so, the Society of Women Engineers would like to invite you to come spend the day with us at the University of Tennessee! We'll show you how to apply classroom knowledge to the real world and have fun while doing it! Join us at the University of Tennessee for a chance to participate in engineering experiments, tour the campus, and to talk with current engineering professors and college students.

Girl's Engineering Exploration

A full day event, for middle school girls, of STEM activities, information about engineering careers and meeting with female engineers.

Girls In Engineering Academy

The ESD’s Girls in Engineering Academy program is a STEM, project-based program filled with engineering, math, computer science, communication, and college experiences in efforts of getting middle school girls exposed early on and interested in engineering

Camp Invention

Camp Invention is one week in the summer where your child’s creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills are challenged and developed in fun and exciting ways. Our top priority is to inspire future innovators and build their confidence in the natural ability to dream and create. Children are presented with fun, hands-on challenges that encourage creative problem solving, teamwork, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Camp invention is led by experienced local educators and new curriculum is introduced each year, inspired by the Inductees of the National Inventors Hall of Fame!

Ten80 Student Racing Challenge

Students own a sports team and their ultimate goal is to engineer performance. This includes personal performance, team performance and of course, race performance. The base technology for Student Racing Challenge teams is a 1:10 scale electric radio-controlled (RC) car that can be setup in over 4 million ways before re-engineering a single part.

Fantastic Fridays

Fantastic Fridays lets K-12 students work in real college-level science labs. Students get hands-on science training, and even get to solve murder mysteries!

Sessions are free to schools, and generally last from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Afterward, teachers and students are encouraged to stay and enjoy lunch in the campus cafeteria.

Girl Power!

For the past three years, we have hosted Girl Power which is a STEM career day for girls. This program gives young women in our community the opportunity to meet and learn from women in the STEM fields. This event offers a special EXTREME demonstration from Imagination Station, special activities prepared by STEM professionals and the opportunity to explore the science center.

A World In Motion

The A World In Motion Program brings Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education to life for students in grades K-8 with hands- on activities.
